Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara has fans in Miami and around the MLB scrambling to decipher a mysterious tweet that many hope signals a possible move.
NL Cy Young Award winner, Sandy Alcantara, signed a five-year contract with the Marlins after the 2021 season, but the status of the franchise makes it seem likely he won’t see that deal in Miami.
He’s too valuable a business asset for the Marlins to ignore and he’s too good a pitcher to ultimately pay to play ball in a competitive setting.
This is why Twitter was outraged by Alcantara’s tweet on Friday, even if it said little at all.
tweet? One hourglass emoji.
What does that hourglass mean? Is Alcantara a descendant of a big move? Did the Marlins know?
Twitter speculation swirled with fans of almost every team suggesting it would be theirs soon enough.
Fans across the league believe Sandy Alcantara is on her way
Alcantara made his way to Miami from St. Louis via a 2017 trade for Marcell Ozuna. The Cardinals may now be bothered to include him in this trade package as he has become one of the best young arms in the league. He was an All-Star in 2019 despite leading MLB in losses. He also led the league in shutouts and maintained an impressive 3.88 ERA given the conditions.
Last season, he took his game to the next level. For the first time in his career, he converted his 2.28 ERA into a winning record of 14-9. He made six complete games and had one chance.
The 27-year-old would be a popular business target if the Marlins make it clear that they are open to the idea. So far, Reporting by John Heyman of the New York Post The team is willing to listen to anyone but Alcantara.
